Resumes Career Change

Vanessa Said:

Looking for career change. I was a legal assistant for 20 yrs and am now unemployed.?

We Answered:

Your experience as a legal assistant will speak for itself. Twenty years at this job is stressful enough to make people look at you in a different light.
Maybe explore the possibilities of secretary with a corporation, or were you looking to move out on your own?

Ted Said:

Has anyone in IT managed to make a career change? What are the options?

We Answered:

NON-IT u mean which career field r u attempting, becareful in choosing bcoz after choosing that career again u may get bored and look for change. so always put ur best attempt in the field u r in. or try for analytics or IT enabled services

Kirk Said:

Writing a resume for a career change?

We Answered:

Career transitions can be difficult, but certainly rewarding if you can step into a position that allows you to lean into your core strengths. Of course, this requires that you have a firm idea of what your core strengths are. These are not just the "things you are good at," but rather those aspects of your personality that energize you.

As for what kinds of "business" positions might leverage a background as a math teacher, a few ideas come to mind. If you are technically savvy, you could try Consultative Sales within Tech. You might also look into Financial Sales. If you consider yourself to be analytical and a problem solver (two strengths I could imagine a math teacher possessing), you could look into a Systems/Business Analyst position. Of course, these are just a few ideas.

I highly recommend you take the time to really examine and discover your strengths before you begin the process of creating job search documents. Not only will the process boost your confidence, but it will help you to create documents that more effectively position you for the transition. Additionally, if your resume and cover letter are really selling strengths, you will interview much better, as you will be speaking to things about which you are passionate.

Beast of luck to you!
