Retraining For A New Career

Darlene Said:

just got laid off can my previous employer be made to pay for retraining in a new career?

We Answered:

usually if they will pay for retraining they tell you this before you got laid off. if they didnt, I think you're out of luck.

If you had 50k to retrain for a new career?

We Answered:

My wife changed careers and it cost her very little. I watched as she increased our bank statements and decided that I should make a career change myself, I went from a to someone who gets to stay at home with my children and wife. My company offers benefits and a 401k plan, and is a BBB member. Please feel free to e-mail us.

Javier Said:

Is Open University a good idea to 'retrain' into a new career?

We Answered:

I just registered with a course through the open university and i would recommend them to anyone, they have a large range of courses to take in every different level from introduction to degrees. You can take a course that will only take 9 months to complete doing 8 hours a week. They can be quite expensive but they offer, payment plans and you might be able to get financial help and course grants. Defiantly take a look and see what they have.

HELP! Does anybody have an idea for a new job/new career?

We Answered:

I recently went through the same mind-set you are experiencing now.

Take an inventory of your skills and abilities. Ask you spouse and family member what they see as your strong points. You will probably come up with a long list that will astonish you.

Being a teacher for as long as you have, you have acquired many skills that you may not be aware of. Start a home business, in commercial design, or any other type of business that could benefit from your knowledge. After reviewing your list, you may find that you are a jack of all trades.

Don't limit yourself to opportunities where you feel comfortable. You will soon find a comfort zone in any environment. I manage pharmacists, and have no pharmacy training. I address the business side of the institution. The important thing is never be afraid of jumping into the cold water. That is where you will find opportunity.
