Seeking Career Change

43 and seeking Career Change. I am interested in health care. Nurse, DR's Asst.?

The main thing to ask yourself (aside from will you have time to study and do well going back to school after all of these years!) is:

-Are you in excellent health?
-Are you in excellent shape?
-Do you have any injuries?

Nursing is a physically demanding job. One person on here called it "backbreaking labor". And it is. Most RNs your age are looking for desk jobs or have left the field entirely due to burnout, injury, illness, etc. That said, if you are in good shape, go for it. Age shouldn't be *the* limiting factor, but is is one of them.

There are other options in the medical field that require a short program, often 2-3 years. Tech positions, like X-ray tech, MRI tech, respiratoy tech, etc, all typically pay well and generally are not as physically demanding as nursing. However, some physical work is part of these jobs as well. You will need to position clients for scans, etc. You can also explore medical transcription, pharmacy tech, or dental assisting as well. These programs are typically 1 year (give or take) in length.

Good luck!

Seeking career change advice (?)?

We Answered:

Make a list of things you like to do and have the potential to do well. Focus your energy on discovering the jobs that are best suited to your natural talents and aspirations.

For instance, if you are interested in helping others and like politics and are able to communicate effectively, you might want to take a look at studying law. If this is the case, look for work in a law office, get to understand what it is to be a lawyer. In some cases, you may be able to get them to pay for your education.

You may want to consider taking up a non-traditional trade. Sometimes I wish I had. Trades are in especially high demand and earning potential is very high. These jobs for ideal for smart dextrous people. A mastercraft person can earn top-dollar. Have you considered, cabinet making? masonry? plumbing? welding?

Get out in your community and see where the jobs will be in five (5) years. Know the market. In my experience, when we aren't able to come to a decision it's often because we don't have enough information.

how do you sugarcoat current work history as a topless entertainer when seeking a career change?

We Answered:

the past is that.....past...
you need to let go of your guilt...there is no answer we can give you, that you haven't already explored yourself....
you don't need an answer.....you need forgiveness,....and only YOU can give that to yourself.
Judge not...
that even includes ourselves...
you did what you did...no BFD....and you will find no comfort in the FACT that others have done worse...hold tight to all the good memories during that time..and let go of the rest.
MOVE ON girlfriend!!! the future is bright..!!! just turn the light ON!!

I am seeking a career change?

Marketing background means little or nothing (perhaps less than nothing, as accounting managers often have a pretty low opinion of marketing folks, as regards their rigor, and veracity), if you're interested in putting on sleeve garters and a green eyeshade. So, to move to accounting, you're really talking about a career break.

But, to sell or market accounting services, you might still be working in a marketing capacity, and find that a toe-wetting exposure to basic accounting might be useful for relating to clients. It's not likely to create a lot of rapport with accountants.

I am not an accountant, but I have been a marketer, and a business owner, among other things.
