Changing Career from Software Engineer?

We Answered:

Get into network engineering. A lot less coding and you'll have a leg up on other Network engineers when it comes to scripting

Software engineer or network engineer career?

We Answered:

Why don't you try project management? It is an extroverted position and you talk to a lot of people. I don't think being a network engineer actually is much better than being a software engineer in that regard.

change career from Software Engineering to Banking and financial management - advise please.?

We Answered:

If you want my opinion, stay where you are. The reason I say this is the financial world has a lot of weeding out to do. This is really going to take a toll on a lot of people and companies in this world. If you want to get into the financial world, do it from your computer you did this question on and do some day trading. You wont be going into financial debt learning about it, you wont have your company closing its door on you when you get to work one day, you wont have clients coming to you crying cause you just melted their entire life's savings and they will be on mac and cheese from their normal fi-lee minion. Really, and if you just have to do this, just go to a couple of companies like Marel linch or alike, they will give you study materials and if you pass the grewling test for the 6-63 or series 7 test, and survive, they might even pay for the test for you also.

Career change to software engineer?

We Answered:

well , some companies will see for persons who suit for the job and not for the Qualification, like they would see if you can handle stress , if u can communicate well. that's all

they will give all the training u need.

learning a technology like java before entering the field is OK , but no one can guarantee u that will be taken into a project based on java only

10+ yrs in telecom engineer, want to change career to software dev .NET. Is MCAD certified enough for .NET job

We Answered:

Microsoft recommends that you have a certain period of experience in .NET before getting certified. However, you can get certified without the actual experience.

As for getting hired, that depends on the organisation and your level of knowledge.

I do not recommend that you take the last exam: Analysing requirements(I think its 70-300 as I recall ) before you work in development in a software company for at least 2 years. Stick with the MCAD for the time being.

Hope this helps

Should I change my career from a software engineer to an accountant?

We Answered:

Wow. This is an interesting question because you have degrees in two excellent fields: information systems and accounting.

In my opinion (I'm an IT manager in a large organization), information systems gives you the most career options, as there are lots of different paths you can take with a technology career. But - and this is a big but for you - you will need to be constantly learning new things. Technology continues to advance at a breathtaking pace and if you don't stay current your career will suffer.

An accounting career will be very different, as accounting principles don't change very rapidly. This means it can be somewhat repetitious, but this may be exactly what you are looking for.

As to which is the better paying career, technology probably wins. As to which will give you more time with your family, it will be accounting, hands down (in my opinion). Technology careers frequently require being on call, as you have no doubt found with your jobs. Accountants seldom get called in the middle of the night!

You're in a great position, as both of your areas of expertise are in pretty good demand.

Good luck, regardless of which way you choose.
