Starting new career in Network admin, starting salaries? We Answered:
depends on the city in which you live, but a good range would be $40 for a rural location and up to $100K in urban I believe.Diana Said:
What is the best retail company to work for as far as starting a new career as a female of 54 ?We Answered:
Unfortunately the majority of the retail business does not pay well unless you're in a management position. I was a supervisor at the Canadian chain of Canadian Tire before starting my present career and I made next to little. Now that being said, there must be greater options in high end retail, such as Jewelry, Furniture ect. However I would recommend staying away from places such as Walmart, Target. With your education level, social work and maturity, I would think any retail store would welcome you with open arms. Good luck.Daisy Said:
Need advice-over 50yr old starting new career..dog groomer, medical billing, ? I need to make at least 50k.?We Answered:
If you don't want to go into an office setting and you need to make 50k, consider nursing. It's a quick degree (ADN). It's not easy, but a lot of people do it as a second career and there are a lot of older students out there.Danielle Said:
I am currently starting a new career with the police dept and I recieved a letter for jury duty.?We Answered:
You have two options. One option is that you can request a postponement of your jury duty. In CA you can postpone it up to 6 months later, I think. There should have been instructions for this on your jury summons.
The other option is to just go. Your employer is required to allow you to go to jury duty, and surely a police department knows this. You need to show the summons to your supervisor as soon as possible so that you can work something out regarding your training.

What is being an esthetician like ? I am thinking about starting a new career as an esthetician&make up artist? We Answered:
It all depends where you want to work.Working for yourself vs working for a company are very different experiences.
Before deciding on a career for sure, you should definitely talk in person to:
• A person in the esthetician field.
• A person who is going to school for cosmetology
I don't know what you're looking for though.
I was a makeup artist for a short time, and liked it. But it wasn't my passion I found out quickly.
So you'll obviously find some people who love it, and some people who don't.
People who are successful and people who aren't.
If you are good at makeup and can see yourself doing it for other people, all day long - just go for it.
It's not like you're stuck in one career your entire life.

About starting a new career and going back to college at the age of 32?We Answered:
I think you answered your own question. You asked about an entry level position at a brokerage. "Entry level" pretty much sums it up. You will start at the low end of the pay scale, but perhaps higher if you impress at the interview. There are stories of the fellow who started in the mail room who eventually became the president. You gotta start somewhere. Just be advised that working at a brokerage firm and BEING a stock broker are two entirely different things. The latter requires education and certification. If you find the right firm they may well offer educational assistance (read tuition reimbursement).
Your second question about being 32 and going to college reminds me of a famous reply from Dear Abby. When relating a similar story a reader whined that if she went to college that she would be (insert age) when she graduated in four years. Abby wisely asked how old she would be in four years if she didn't go to college.
Enough tree to climb? At 32, you should have plenty, just don't waste time swinging on a vine. My wife just graduated college at 45, got a new job at nearly double her previous salary, and is in line for a promotion - less than a year later.
