It depends on what occupation you want training in. Do some research first by visiting with those who you would like to do their type of work. I became an certified optician this way; many years ago.
I would start by looking at your local area vocational tech school. This could even be a short course of about 6 weeks at your local junior college. If you're wanting a paid internship; then you may have to interview with the program's director.
Job corps (US government) is a good place to start if you're under 24 and want to learn, earn, and live near the place you will be schooled at.

as long as your not one of those people who religiously tell yourself you are 'too old to learn anything new', then i think its a great idea, and that you will go far.
