We Answered:

Most schools have lists of faculty and researchers (with their interests) online....find labs looking at something that you're interested in, and start contacting them to express your interest (your goals, your background, your interest in their work, etc). It's important to be enthusiastic and flexible about the research topic and your starting role....in most labs you get your foot in the door, prove yourself, and then are given more responsibility. This is *especially* true if this is your first research stint. And if you end up not madly in love with the topic, at least you can establish the skills and contacts to transfer to another lab. .

Also, apply very, very widely and don't give up....I did research before med school, and I literally emailed about 30 people before landing at the lab I worked with (that said, I was looking for a paid position, so if you're willing to do the work unpaid it should be much easier). Just be persistent and flexible, and you'll find someone who will give you a chance.

1) Consulting companies would normally have to offer higher salaries in order to attract high-caliber graduates who would otherwise go into finance.
2) Investment banking still has higher potential than consulting.
3) With finance in the "dumps", it'll be interesting to see if salaries decline along with the number of job openings in that field.
4) With the economy in the dump, the same thing could happen to management consultanting jobs for new hires.
5) Foreign students can get good jobs as long as they have talent.
6) It may be better to focus on companies that have a strong presence in your country of origin.
