Career Development Degree

Eugene Said:

6th year in college and decided to push through a career-irrelevant degree for the sake of graduating. Mistake?

We Answered:

In my opinion, I'd say to just stick with the major that will help you get you on the career path that you are most interested in. Even if it means being in college for another two years, two years is basically nothing when compared to the rest of your life. When you choose a career, you want it to be something that you enjoy. If you think you'd be happy working for 20+ years in web development, then the two extra years you would spend getting there would be worth it. Also, a degree in Communicatio, English or Religious Studies would probably hurt your chances in getting a career in web design. Also, the careers those degees can help you obtain may not be careers you'd like in the long run, making the initial six years you spent in college a waste. That is, of course, assuming that theres no career that interests you that can be obtained through one of those degrees. So basically, if you want to stick with web development, then attend for two more years, however, if there is another career that you feel you would enjoy that a degree in either English, Religious Studies, or Communications can get you, then you should pursue that instead. If you pursue a career that you don't like, then chances are you're going to hate the career you end up with and regret not taking on the extra two years. But yeah, that's just my opinion.
