Career Development Goal

Dustin Said:

how can a real estate company contribute to the development of a country?

We Answered:

I believe a career should be something that you would do for free, but since you've chosen for us hey lets do it. I believe my goal for owning a real estate company would have to be opening the door for others to make a living by making a positive change. I would be very persistant in changing how our professionals in this business are viewed. This would be accomplished by conducting my business with integrity and diligence. All employees or agents would have to abide by these qualities or find someone else to work for, no matter what numbers they're capable of producing. How can one make such a difference in the world through real estate. Well I'll say this due to the fact of lenders placing people in bad loans and agents placing people in bad housing situations, our current housing crisis is the result. This is pretty much happening all over rightnow, so in a nutshell maybe what I'm trying to say is I'd work using integrity and hopefully have the opposite effect take place. Hope I helped.

Edna Said:

why does my company want to know about my career development goals?

We Answered:

Lots of reasons:

1. Succession planning: They need to figure out how they might best move employees internally to fill positions when they become vacant

2. Employee retention: If they can work with you to grow your job and develop your skills in a manner that supports your longer-range career goals, you're more likely to be happy, productive and to stick around

3. Recruiting: If they see that there are positions that there won't be a lot of interest in from their existing workers when they become vacant, they have a better idea of what to look for when they're hiring new talent

4. Compensation: If they can offer classes, work experience, mentor services, etc. as an aspect of compensation, they can keep you happy while keeping their payroll from getting out of hand.

Here's the thing: let's say you're a manager at an Office Depot and your career goal is to be a stand up comedian - something completely unrelated to your current job. As an employer, I'm OK with that, as long as you're a strong contributor to my team while I've got you and you help me to find/train your eventual replacement. Can I flex your hours to accommodate your other vocational goal? Can I provide public speaking opportunties where you can practice your comedy/presentation skills and I can leverage them to my store's advantage? You get the idea.
