Career Development Guidance

Darrell Said:

Networking career guidance..?

We Answered:

Smaller companies (like the one I work for) are likely to have in house developers and outsource their network administration needs. It's also easier to get a developer to obtain layman's networking skills, than vice- versa. I'm a developer and DBA, and do some rudimentary networking tasks such as configuring TCP-IP and administering the wireless access points. We seldom need to call in consultants to tend to the network. Networks are very reliable and many companies don't need a full time networking staff. It's also easier to keep developers busy with other things if there's not a lot of development projects on the table. The important thing is that you are investing in yourself. If you like networking, stick with it and you'll have no problem getting a job. Do not switch to development if it's not your thing just because you think there's better job opportunities.

I think Geographic Associate Trainee has got nothing to do with Developing software programs. Correct?.

Well in that case you can continue this present job only till you get a proper job as:-
1> 'Software Engineer/Programmer,
2> Software Test Engg/ UI-Design /Web-Design/ Webdeveloper/Reports Developer/ DBA etc.

And don't mention this current job details in resume and you should apply as fresher. Just tell that you were undergoing training in some Institute or taking care of Brother's business blah...

We Answered:

Hang out with people who are already in the field you're in. For technical and engineering positions the best places to ask are probably http://www.interviewat.com, just find some companies with heavy engineering hiring.
