Career Development In The Army

Theresa Said:

What are the recruitment options like for a science graduate in the British Army/ RAF?

We Answered:

Dstl would be a good option to link your biosciences with involvement in UK defence. Whilst Dstl are mostly civil servants, their customers are the military, and so 'support to ops' is a big part of their role. There are other science jobs in MoD, but Dstl would remain a good entry point.

The military recruit a variety of degree types into their jobs. In all 3 services, initial training is general, and I believe it is considered more important to absorb the ethos and disciplines of the service in question, than to have any particular degree- potentially there are lots of options. If you're looking at a military career I would focus on the service you're interested in, and the branch (e.g. in the RAF, whether aircrew, engineer, logistics etc). I would expect that Biochem in the Army is a fairly niche discipline to enter, which might be appropriate for only a portion of your career, but Army recruitment would be the obvious people to ask.

Suffice to say that although Dstl and the military work together, a military career is a very different proposition to working in Dstl.

Carlos Said:

What do u think of this person?I know u don't know him at all.plz just say ur ideas........?

We Answered:

On the face of what is written in the portion of text provided it makes him sound a great man who achieved many things to bring his nation into the modern world and was a clever strategist. However it clearly is only part of a document and since it is so eulogistic, it is bound to be followed with some kind of reservations as no human is perfect and some of the measures he took would have backfired subsequently.

As for not knowing him, one only has to have read books or magazine articles about Iran and the revolution that took place there, or look up his name on the internet.

PS.I fail to see the relevance of SAVAK since this organisation only came into being whilst his son was in power.

If you decide to go this route you could work in a preschool while going to school depending on your area $10-14 is usually the pay range.
