In this instance, they are under no duty to refund anything - the course, as booked, was still available for you to take.The best result that you can expect (if they are not prepared to refund voluntarily), is for the money to be put towards a course being run at a later date. But whether they do anything is entirely at their discretion - ask, and point out the medical circumstances, but be polite as you are in their hands.
