Career Development Questions

Jordan Said:

Some questions on the game development field?

We Answered:

Flexible? then don't look at game development, unless you think 16 hours a day codeing during crunch time is 'flexable'. The other problem you are going to run into is there are about 15 billion other people thinking the same thing. and some are MUCH better then you. and teh mroe people there are.. the less money you are going to make.

If you want to get into gaming. then just start making a game. use UT or Half-life and mod a game. Get some experiance in the business, WHILE you are working on your school work.

'degrees' don't mean jack in a field like video games. you should be able to prove what you can do with out the piece of paper.

as for things you should be doing.. that all depends on where in the busiess you want to go. Modding will give you experance on every level of game design.

if you want to make games then you need math.. LOTS and LOTS of math.

you want to make textures? then take art classes..

what to write scripts? English, and writting classes.

music? take music classes, and learn the art of sound boarding and sound recording.

you'll never be bord.. I can tell you that.. LOL

A couple questions about the career of a general surgeon...?

We Answered:

1) Why not call a surgeon's office in your area and speak to either an assistant or to the surgeon directly? You may have to call several, work from a prepared script.

2) Become a referee or umpire for a sports team, take up life-saving and become a life guard, work with a team to promote something or design something. A surgeon seldom works solo.

3) You could also go onto the BBC news site and check the Health category - lots of information there.

questions on careers in legal drug development?

We Answered:

There are several parts on the path to a new drug here's my very brief interpretation!
Biological Researchers try to identify the specific causes of diseases (cynical note: disease must affect people with enough money to pay for drugs).
Computer modellers create the receptor sites believed to be attacked in the disease and design molecules likely to block the sites.
Discovery chemists design and make possible compounds with the appropriate blocking functions. Often many variations are made with different groups attached.
When a possible new drug is developed, scale up chemists make materials for safety testing and clinical trials
If the trials are successful chemical engineers and industrialisation chemists work out how to make tonnes of the stuff.

Such jobs are typically reasonably well paid but often require PhD level education or experience.
The work would be in the drug company research site or often in a sponsored university.
