Career In Business Development

Glenn Said:

Would the fact that I have a law degree prevent me from getting a job in Business Dev or Corporate Dev?

We Answered:

Just tell them you couldn't find a job as a lawyer and decided to pursue another career path. Or leave the JD off your resume entirely.

Bonnie Said:

Does the job of business development manager have career scope in advertising field in india?

We Answered:

Hello Dil,

Good luck to you! I can imagine it must be a tough choice to make. If you already have a payed job that pays more then the fixed salary minus penalty pinch I'd say think twice about it. I'm sure there is a good reason why they have this penalty.

If advertising is your thing you may want to think about getting an online business as a second income to back you up. You don't have to limit yourself to India but can advertise worldwide and build up a genuine monthly returning income without having fixed hours. Bryan Said:

I have a Master's of Human Resources Development and a Master's of Business Administration. No job experience

We Answered:

You have some excellent qualifications to begin a career in Human Resources. Even though we are in a recession, regardless of what the politicians may say, there are some sectors of the economy that are booming- oil and gas, biotech and anyone engaged in trade with the Chinese, among others. Do some research into the various sectors, and you will be able to identify those in an expansion mode. In larger organizations, you should be prepared to accept an Associate role, which is generally the entry-level. In smaller companies, you will likely be able to land a role as a generalist, but of course there will be less upside potential.

Either way, good luck.

Megan Said:

what should be done to swich over career from Business development/sales domain to Business Analyst domain?

We Answered:

You need IT knowledge. Business analysts assess business needs such as workflows and data requirements for computer systems, but to do that, they need a good understanding of computers and software. An MIS degree would probably be your best bet.

Christian Said:

what kind of career can i go into with a sales/business development background?

We Answered:

Broadcasting companies or newspapers would love to hire you to sell advertising. You'd be able to give advice to business owners on how to market their products.

I think you would have to do sales as an entry level, no matter what the final goal.

Melanie Said:

Which graduate program or degree will allow me to use my analytical skills as a business consultant?

We Answered:

Difficult to say without knowing what you are currently doing. My instincts are that you have enough formal qualifications and that you are best to get some real work in a Company where you can contribute and develop yourself. If you like getting into detail a rewarding area is business change management. You need to analyse the current business and form a plan of change to meet new and realistic business targets. Its great work if you can find a way into it. If you get into a Companies finance and business management team you could build the skills over time.

Good Luck
