If you are already interested in property then maybe you could do something in that field - you mentioned painting and decorating...a friend of mine did a five day plastering course and this gave him the basic skills to start up on his own - it took him a bit of time to build up his speed but he does ok now - not sure which area you live in but check out this link for the idea.

You could maybe set us in self employment (even if it's just part time til your work builds up) - there are some other tips for self employment here and how you may be able to get help to set up in the form of grants etc.

linkus86 is right you should contact individual properties. I've seen some places that don't require even a GED! I live in Ft. Worth and began my career as a leaser by applying everywhere that involved an office setting, I landed a job at a property in a suburb of the metroplex (wasn't the hottest prop. but it was nice) making $25,000 to start. This was several years ago... I know now that residential leasing agents make upwards of $30,000 their first year and commercial property is much more money.

I only have a GED and am a community manager for an upscale property ... I make $75,000 and I've been at this since I was 18 I was promoted to manager at 20! You sound motivated and like a good prospect so you should do well with your new career.

** In TX you do not need a realty license to fill out paperwork. But showing you're going for that is a plus on any application you fill out at an apt. complex.
