How can I use jealousy in a positive way?

We Answered:

I love this question, because YES, you can use jealousy in a positive way!

This is so like me, the jealousy part. And although I am not entirely crazy and look at the Joneses day in and day out, as far as career goes, I ALWAYS get jelous of others. It is probably the best feeling that happened to me in my life (my curse is my blessing ;), because it got me where I am at right now, and I am not ruling any major company, but I just graduated college without having my parents support. I consider myself really independent, and if not jealousy, I wouldn't be where I am at.

As far as your question, you've got some good answers already. LEARN FROM HER! Don't let her know that you are jealous, but whatever you learn from her, it's always gonna stay with you as a part of your personality. This is good news! This shows that you actually have ambition!

Asking to be "groomed" for a position **NEED ADVICE**?

We Answered:

There are a few ways you can handle this situation. If you are on friendly terms with the HR Director, you could ask her to go out for lunch or a cup of coffee with you because you'd like some career advice. If you don't feel it is appropriate to socialize with her, simply ask if she can meet with you for 20 minutes in her office. Tell her you are interested in advancing in your career and ask for her advice on what she thinks would be the best way to do it.

It sounds like you have a supervisor who is in between you and the director as far as the formal reporting arrangement. You don't want to alienate your supervisor and may want to include her in your career exploration. Be sure your supervisor knows you're looking for advice and not trying to take over the supervisor's position. You can tell your supervisor why you want to meet with the director so there is no question as to what's going on.

While you can say you aspire to a position like the one she holds, I wouldn't say anything to the director about wanting to be groomed for her position. Ask her questions about what type of education is required, what kinds of job experience is preferred, etc.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

Is is possible for a Headhunter to find career in traditional HR?

We Answered:

It is a very interesting question. From a purely career-oriented perspective, I would not take the offer.

I think you are sidetracking your path to a management level position in HR. The risk you are taking is the possibility of pigeon-holing yourself as a recruiter, which it does not appear you are interested in.

I understand, of course, that there may be other considerations such as pay and benefits packages. That's why you must ultimately make this decision.

Good Luck!!
