I am a professional Graphic Artist/Designer. Pencil Drawing/Painting is NOT a requirement, but the talent of being able to look at something, see what could be improved visually, able to improve it, and keep your Marketing Department/Client/Customers happy is what you will need.

In my opinion, there are two type of Graphic Artists:

1: Technical Artists - Knows the programs (Adobe CS4, etc.) and is able to create based on their skill of the programs.

2: Talent Artists - Been doing art and designing using "old school" methods and use computer programs to enhance what they can do.

Neither are bad, and both have their pros and cons.

Read books and articles regarding both careers. There are spa therapy career guides out there. Also, know what is really your passion and get into it. Follow your heart...

Web design is great and there is a major field for it. You can learn more self- taught then you can in a classroom (as always in life). Just try it and fix mistakes, that is the best way.
