Kathy Said:

School social worker or guidance counselor?

We Answered:

the social worker has access to outside help whereas the guidance counselor is just in the school and works alone.

Beatrice Said:

considering becoming a teacher...?

We Answered:

To do social work you need a social work degree. To be a school social worker you need an MSW and usually have to have a focus in that MSW on school social work (usually includes some specific course work and doing your internships in this context). Different states have different requirements but many require a specific credential. School social work is one of the more competitive areas within social work (regular hours and those long summers make it highly desirable).

A MA in Education will qualify you to be a teacher - and possibly a guidance counselor. Some schools also hire school counselors - and there are degrees in counselor education.

Now Wheelock College in MA was at one point looking at a joint MSW/MA in education you may be interested in this type of program.

Can you help me decide what career to pursue?

We Answered:

Sounds like you need to take some personality profile tests to see what's a good fit -

Starting off anywhere, you're going to have close supervision until you prove yourself, unless you start your own business - then you will only have your clientele as a quasi supervisor of sorts - you'll be the boss and by listening to your clientele's input - your business will grow. Do the testing first to see if that's a fit for you.

Would you need physics for a career in medicine?

We Answered:

It is best to look at the specific program at the specific university you hope to attend, because they will have slightly different course requirements, and pre-requisites.

In general though a career in medicine will mean starting with a well-rounded science background, and although you wouldn't think physics would be the most important, universities will try to weed people out by broadening the requirements.

I'd say its likely that you'll have to take at least a couple of physics courses at university.

Maybe a pre-med student could say more definitively, but the best route is to look up the entrance requirements for pre-med, and then look at the required courses for each step of the way (Bsc, MD, etc) and again, unfortunatley, you want to look at the actual schools you might attend.

Good luck!

Kristina Said:

what career options are there for me?

We Answered:

Mainly, government work.

Move to highly democratic, union states as they have the best pay and benefits. Also, big case loads.

The thing about government work is you have lifetime pay and better benefits than the taxpayers get.

Other than that I would imagine some sort of court or school counseling or guidance.

If you school offers the major, you would think they would want to tell you about the career path.

Good luck

What kind of career options do I have? 22 yrs of age and worried.?

We Answered:

I'd start with talking to your schools counselor or a professor/teacher. they should be able to point you in the correct direction. if that doesn't help start looking at local hospitals in their physic departments. you might find something there. or check with the county and see their children's services departments. then there are private companies. your field has lots of possibilities. good luck!
