Employee Career Development

Penny Said:

question on long term carer development?

We Answered:

For businesses that are driven by a set of core values such as Uncompromising Integrity, Constant Respect for People, Balanced Decision Making, Lifelong Learning & Growth, Innovation, Passion, and Stewardship, which are the values that drive my company; it is the companies responsibility to help employees grow and develop over time. That makes the job more fulfilling and rewarding. An employee who feels valued and cared for will tend to respond with doing his or her best.

If you are just starting your career or are looking for a different career or different company to work for, you will want to find a company that values the employee and will invest in their development. Check out the link below, which will bring you to a web page about personal decision making with two important example decisions -- one on choosing your personal vision statement and one on making a career change decision. These decisions are connected and you should find them a valueable resource. Also these pages are focused on knowledge and information and not full of advertising.

I hope you find this helpful. Good luck!

Please help me by answering the following questions regarding selecting web development as my career?

We Answered:

Most web developers make less than software developers, but some web contractors can make an ok living.

Yes they do A LOT of web development. Most of the web developers that they hire work for the software developers, and software engineers that design the bulk of a system.

I don't think there are many companies of that size that ave dedicated to web/dev. Companies that size may have strong support of the web/dev group they have.

As the tools to create web interfaces get easier and easier to use web development falls more into the area of graphic design. There will always be a need for web developers, but you need to be able to differieniate yourself from the graphic designers that can use php.

If you don't want to make a lot of money it is a good idea to work for someone else. The only way to get ahead is to be incontrol of how the business operates.

As a contractor or freelancer you can make more money, but you might have more expenses, like health care, and your own servers and such.

Maybe start out working as a web developer as part of a group in a large company and when you get tired of making lots of money for someone else go out on your own and try it. I assume you are young, you may want to start your own freelance operation now on the side before you have mortgage, spouse, kids...
