How To Develop Your Career

Ray Said:

Who is an accountant?

We Answered:

Not me but my Husband is a NHS Management Accountant in a Birmingham Hospital. He has recently gained an ACCA qualification which can be used in both the public and private sector, and was part-sponsored by the NHS Trust he works for. I know everyone jokes about accountants personalities, but my Husband is great, not boring at all, he just loves working with numbers and likes the fact he meets with lots of different budget holders in the NHS. So I guess if you like numbers and people, and don't mind the hard work involved in gaining the qualifications - go for it.

P.S my husband didn't start off in finance, so don't feel you have to do an Accountancy Degree first. Good Luck, hope this helps.

Teacher assistant?

We Answered:

Ummmm - I havent got a GCSE in science and I am a teacher?? Why become a teaching assistant when you can become a teacher?? (Pay difference = TA £12,000 - £14,000 Teacher - start on £22,000 and rise to £33,000..... or more). You need English and Maths at GCSE only and a degree that can be used for teaching and you will be welcomed onto any teaching course with open arms!!

(I am assuming you want to be a secondary teacher? Some Uni's will ask for Science for Primary courses!)

My degree is Sports Management by the way!! (I teach Business Studies at GCSE/AS/A2 as you could with a Business degree!)

Is architecture a fulfilling degree and/or career to you?

We Answered:

It is a blast! Either you love it or you hate it. If you love it, you're practically giving your services away for free. Look at it this way, as an intern, you will be putting in so much uncompensated OT, you're lucky to make $11/hour. To put it into perspective, burger flippers at In and Out Burger will make more than you with a high school diploma. So in the beginning (first 3-5 years), the pay scale is dismal. It may or may not pick up depending on where you take your career, how much you've learned during those 3-5 years. Money will follow those who are good at what they do no matter the field of study, just look at the Madden football video players.
Getting the degree was not difficult, nor was taking the ARE. It takes a lot of hard work and you have to be willing to sacrifice. There's a lot to learn and school will not prepare you for the actual professional experience. You essentially have to learn everything on your own. If the field was easy, everyone will be doing it. You will realize that only a few from each class actually make it to registration. Not because it is hard, it's because most applicants are not willing to take the necessary steps to make it.

How did you develop the drive and focus to succeed in your career?

We Answered:

I seriously think you need time to think about it. Do not waste your time and money doing something that you do not like 100%. If what you choose to do is not that impressive to other people, so freaking what! It's your life. If you do not know until you are forty what you want to do, so what? It's more stupid to do something in your life just to make other people happy. You will not respect yourself. Listen to yourself.

Jackie Said:

how should i answer this question? Describe your career goals?

We Answered:

How could anyone else answer that question for you? All you are looking for is for someone to feed you the answers, you copy it and send it back. GUESS WHAT? You will then be expected to live up to your own goals that weren't your own goals but a bunch of anonymous people who might even attempt to answer you here!
