New Career Ideas

Emma Said:

best ideas to start a new career with a good salary!?

We Answered:

That seems alot for a LVN program. I haven't really looked into LVN programs, so maybe I am mistaken and that is the norm. But, at my community college, you can get an associates in nursing (to become an RN) for half that price. An associates in nursing usually is a 2 yr program. And, the grand total would probably be somewhere near 13,000 - 15,000. So, I think you really need to look around at other schools, not just that one program.

What would be a good career for someone who is creative as in thinking of new ideas & ways to improve things?

We Answered:

Hi,

I think there are many occupations which will match your desire and skills. Why don't you check first salary ranges for different jobs in your area and what are the responsibilities you will have on those jobs and then you will be able to eliminate and choose the best one for you.

Good luck!;)

Can anyone give me some new ideas about how to gain work experience as a career advisor?

We Answered:

If you've applied to about 400 positions, and haven't gotten any offers, then maybe you should look into becoming something other than a career advisor...

I am a high school English teacher who is looking for a new career . Any ideas?

We Answered:

I am currently living in the Chicago area working as a sales rep and my wife is a teacher. We have talked about this same question many time. I think from personal experience, teachers make great managers or sales reps. These two careers involve many skills used in the teaching profession, negotiation skills and the ability to read people just to name a few. I have instructed large groups and given many sales presentations and I have had people (including my wife) tell me I would make a great teacher. I also know several people that I work with that have made this type of change and have been very successful!

Does anyone have suggestions on career ideas for a new Biology graduate ?

We Answered:

I agree with others. Get a PH D or MAsters

I have a friend with a Botany Degree (he was originally a pre-med major but Organic Chemistry did him in) who is now doing part time work as a "mad scientist" in elementary schools, before that he ran the family business.

Getting Laid Off. The factory is moving to Mexico. Any ideas for a new career?

We Answered:

Tough spot to be in. To make money like you are suggesting, isn't going to be easy. You may have to consider moving. Truck driving would give you good money, but would you want to be away from your family for days at a time? I don't think local delivery would pay as much. But what about UPS or FED Ex driving? If you don't think you'll need to go for a mortgage anytime soon, then you can drastically change jobs or vocations. But if you need to move and need a new mortgage it's best to locate a position within the same field/industry you left. Starting your own business from home, like home inspecting will take time and money to get going. But you know as well as I do that age is going to be considered when applying for other jobs. Not legal but it's done all the time. I hope someone else on here is able to give you some better ideas. Good Luck!
