Network Cabling... Is this a good career to go into now?

We Answered:

Well, to be honest I think that three months is WAY too long to learn how to lay cable, unless you're talking about becoming a field technician and learning to work on major transport, routing, and switching gear (which goes way beyond simple cabling and cross connects).

Also, it seems strange to me that as an IT project coordinator, you are only being payed $14 hourly. With your degree and experience, I feel certain you can make WAY better money. Granted, IT is a hard world for women to make advances in, as it is peopled almost entirely by men, but $14 hourly is a ridiculously low salary for someone of your education and experience.

I think that a basic cabling job would actually be a step down from your current position, but if you would be happy with something more hands-on, I still encourage you to pursue it. Maybe consider tweaking the specific job a bit, but still pursue it. Ask yourself what is missing from your current job that would make you happy, and try to figure out what "hands on" jobs would increase your satisfaction. Consider hiring a career coach if you want some detailed assistance with this process.

I hope this helps you; good luck!

How can i pursue medicine late in my academic career?

We Answered:

If you want to be a doctor, I would apply the moment you're certain.

Becoming a dr takes YEARS- I wouldn't waste any more time (unless you're in your final year of school for something else) on any other plans. No time to reflect on your goals, etc. If you want to do this its going to take 10 years easily (normally its 4 premed plus 4 afterwards plus then you work through your fellowship levels, another 3-4, then specialization....)
