What's the deal with my Mom?

We Answered:

Not really sure... its hard to tell when I dont know any of you, ya know. But the best thing you can do is talk to your mom. Let her know how you feel... after all, she may not even realize you feel this way, or that she is doing anything wrong...

Good luck.

Completely lost at 29 years old???

We Answered:

Alright.

You just spewed lots of problems and you tie some of them back to your career.

So, you didn't go to a great school. How good are you at web development? Can you code effectively at the latest and greatest languages? If not, can you get yourself up to speed? Why are you unable to hold a job down? What is the reason that employers give you for dismissing you? I'm assuming you are dismissed althought you didn't exactly say that. Next time you get a job, can you fix whatever your last employer said was wrong? Do they say your are not technically able to perform? Or are you coming in late or skipping days of work? Whatever it is, you need to fix it so when you get a job again, those problems don't bite you again.

Why do you not like your hometown? Is it lack of opportunity? Do you hate your family? Are you trying to run from your problems? Leaving your home town is not going to solve your problems. They will follow you.

CIPD financial assistance?

We Answered:

Hi
Options include career development loans http://www.lifelonglearning.co.uk/cdl/

Do you need to start now? what about waiting till you move and get a job with an employer that will contribute.

Have you asked your current employer for the loan - yes you will need to pay it back when you leave - but many companys do this at 0%

As an alternative - why do the CIPD course if you chosen path is learning and development? This is not the best route for an L&D specialist. Have a look at the TAP program (http://www.tap-training.com/) or the program from ITOL (http://www.itol.org/).

Read the threads on http://www.trainingzone.co.uk and http://www.hrzone.co.uk about the CIPD and training.

The CIPD (http://www.cipd.co.uk) is great for generalists but not that strong for L&D specialists. and a L&D specialist with CIPD is no better thought of than one without.

Yo say you have thought about this and know your direction - is it management of L&D, design or delivery, you are aiming for? Each requires different underpinning knowledge and most of this you can gain from holding the post and then developing.

good luck
