Career in Research Development?We Answered:
I don't know the show. What field is that character in? Pharmaceuticals? Computer science? Mechanical engineering? Chemistry? You'll need a bachelor's degree and possibly a Ph.D. (doctorate) in the field you want to work in. If you're seriously interested in this kind of work, take a subscription to Scientific American (or go to your local public library) and read it cover-to-cover every month.

I want to work in research an development, what courses and initial jobs do you suggest? We Answered:
Certain schools offer entrepreneurship majors/minors. Coupling that with a major in your desired field of research would be a good start. In addition, look for schools that have incubators. You may be able to get R&D experience before you even achieve your undergraduate degree.Always remember that no matter how technical a job you have, you need to understand business. At the end of the day your research will be either used to solve a business problem or used to create a new business. In both cases, a solid understanding of underlying business processes is required.
You first "real" job will best be borne out of relationships you make at university co-ops / internships. The right school will offer semester or summer-long opportunities at companies with large R&D shops (IBM, for example). Use that experience to impress the right people and secure a job out of school.
Also, consider "R&D for hire". This is something that even the amateur tinkerer can do sans degree. Having references (and possibly patents) from these ad hoc jobs will do wonders for your career. See the Wired Magazine article on the topic for more perspective.

Careers in research and development? We Answered:
I am evaluating a little input. As I read your name, it states "travlinsoul 21". I take it that you are possibly 21 years in age and that currently; you are traveling (somewhat). "Soul", there are many areas of Research and Development that covers virtually every spectrum of GNP. It helps if you select an area that you are most interested in and apply 'yourself' towards the qualifications that it takes to be successful in that selected field. No one should be allowed to move "easily" to become a department head. It requires hard, concentrated work and diligence to succeed to the higher levels of any field of employment. Yes. of course you need an education. Not all fields, including R&D, require a college degree for certain entry level positions. To become successful though, you will most likely want to pursue your education to the highest levels attainable-for you. Yes, financial returns are a thing to give considerations to, but it shouldn't monopolize career decisions entirely. Success depends upon the individual and if you pursue with just cause and conviction; you will discover your levels of success that will give satisfaction to you. Your quest may not necessarily diminish at any given point, "but"; as you progress, self satisfaction will find its way into the picture. I am not certain as to what you might be asking regarding career options. Research and development usually centers around a specific project or field of research. It may be marine related or space age related or tech or medicine or....(?) I am currently doing research and entry development on modular detention facilities for a company. You can research some of these areas on line to find one that might be of interest to you. You might also be aware that you can apply for grants if you discover your own field that you wish to research in and make efforts to develop. The timing is certainly right for that. I hope that this helps you some. You seem to be inquisitive and that is one of the very best ways to start. Good Luck and may you find what you are seeking in life,'and' please; whatever you do; appreciate help when you receive it and give it back when you can! Take care for now.
