Social Work Career Development

Suzanne Said:

Gcse student soon moving on to A-levels? career in social work..?

We Answered:

I have worked in social work for many years. I teach it as a qualified teacher and train others in it. I have dome many years in child care/child protection. It is a great qualification as it allows you to work in many different areas not just child care. You can get much information re routes into social work but usually for younger people its through University via a degree. The degree replaced the Diploma in 2004. Check the university requirements or look at the CCETSW website for entry levels. Admission is often through UCAS initially. See website The subjects you are studying are excellent for social work and life in general. So a very wise choice there. The most important subjects really to take are ones you like and are good at. If you take only ones people advise you to take then you may not get high enough grades for University. Usually as part of the admission there is a interview and they like to see that you have relevant voluntary or paid life experience to demostrate your interest. Thats important.
Another route is after some work experience you can apply for the same qualification as a mature student where the entry level is much lower/ offset by your work/life experience.
