You can, but it's harder than if you were in the office. You need to either freelance or be dedicated to an employer. If I'm the employer, I would never hire someone to work directly from home - they're usually part of the team, and therefore need to interact with their teammates - preferably in person. Now if they're very, very good, I would consider it. But that proof usually comes from having worked with them in person.

Low stress job? It is if you want to be a junior developer - lower pay, lower responsibilities. But I would never hire a jr developer to work from home. Junior developers are a dime a dozen ...
