I have personally spoken with some executives and hiring managers at Blizzard in Irvine. They said that your formal education is looked at very minimally. They are most interested in the quality of your work and your experience. So for the job you desire to do, I think you have chosen a good major. Business management skills will greatly help you when leading a development team.

As for achieving the position you want, you will most likely have to start at an entry level job within the company. Blizzard said that they hire current employees for higher positions about 40% of the time. So that means about half of the higher career positions available are filled by the lowest level artists, game testers, community managers, QA personnel, etc. Perform your tasks correctly and on time with a great attitude and you will have great opportunities within the company.

Experience is another important aspect Blizzard takes into account. So if you want to be a lead developer, then try to achieve experience in this type of work. Join game development projects, even if they are unpaid positions, to get experience leading a development team.
