a) Marketing people gain respect when they truly appreciate the sales effort - a brief stint in field sales/ channel sales can help gain credibility.b) If u r not so much a sales person, u cud try Market Research as a field - Specialized role that needs ur analytical ability.
c) An MBA degree can help if u r serious about a career in marketing.
d) Of the various stuff u do in marketing, which one are u most good at? If it is data analysis, move to research. If it is promotion, try an ad agency. If it is strategy & tactics, try sales. In short- move from generalist to specialist, wherever u r good at.
