We Answered:

One paragraph is fine. The supplement is looking for a short answer that helps the admissions staff learn more about you and assess your writing. I know, I work there. :)

Randall Said:

What is it like being a U.S. combat medic?

We Answered:

Short version: Yes, you can be a medic assigned to an infantry platoon and be there in the thick of it. You don't simply leave the firefight when somebody is injured. You have to keep him stable until the fighting is done (or slowed down enough) so that a Med-Evac unit can take him to a hospital.

If you want to be high speed low drag simply request airborne in your contract when you enlist (parachute school) and once you're there volunteer for Rangers. Keep requesting challenging and tough assignments and you'll go far.

Volunteering is very important and beneficial.

Who here has either considered volunteering? Think about volunteering, what does it mean? Is it earning credits in order to graduate, or does it mean something else? To be honest, that is what it meant to me, until I did some more research.
There has to be a reason why 40 hours of community service is required to graduate. Not many people know why, in fact many people think that it’s a waste of time. But there are many additional reasons why volunteering is good for the community but mostly good for yourself. Today, I’m going to tell you why volunteering is important, and why it is beneficial to you.

How many people have asked their parents for the latest phone, IPods etc…? (pause) We are taking something from our parents. When it comes to giving, most people walk away. This is why volunteering plays an important role because this helps teens be more responsible and learn how to give as well as take.

The interesting thing about volunteering is that you can choose what you’d like to volunteer for, out of a list provided by the board. This makes learning fun and enjoyable. Wouldn’t you rather go somewhere (whether it’s helping out at charities, reading stories to younger children etc…) then sitting in class doing homework, reading out of text books, or listening to lectures?

Volunteering is a big step for the future, because right after you graduate High School, you have to think about what you’re going to do in the future. Are you going to college? University? To find a job? A career? It's your choice.
Volunteering for something that interests you will not only help the community, but also yourself. It will help your confidence as you decide your future. For example: if you volunteer at a school that you used to attend, you may start to feel confident, and might consider becoming a teacher. You may never have planned on becoming a teacher, but volunteering could give you another opinion.

While volunteering you would get to see the world, from a different perspective. There are so many organizations and hospitals that need volunteers; your volunteering experience could be vast. When Christmas is coming, there are many food drives where you donate food to the less fortunate. Do you really know what purpose you’re donating for? When you volunteer for a certain organizations; you would see the lives of others who use food banks. The lives of children that are terminally ill that lie on hospital beds etc… While Meeting with people and interacting with large varieties of people with various backgrounds and age groups. Thus, you are naturally developing an ability to be influenced by others, rather than your classmates. This will nurture patience, compassion, tolerance and understanding.

Volunteering is not a waste of time. Just two months ago I volunteered at a New Year’s festival. Helping with games and activities. Time went by quickly, three hours felt like fifteen minutes. I had already volunteered for 3 hours in one day. But if 40 hours was spread over in 4 years, then you would only need to volunteer for 10 hours a year, less than 1 hour a month! When you think about it, it doesn’t take much time.

Community service not only helps the community, but it impacts you the most. Whether it’s making you responsible, or experiencing a variety of interesting things. It impacts you, and these 40 hours of community service are there for a reason. Bring yourself out there and discover the wonders out in the community that need your help!!
