WHATS THE ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA EXPERIENCE?

We Answered:

Ok maybe I am just taking this the wrong way but I feel that some of your comments sound self absorbed, and maybe you didn't mean for it to come out that way. I am from the south and we are comprised of many major cities, so we are not all "country" if that is what you have been led to believe. In addition I would not walk around with a "siddity" or "stuck up" demeanor especially if you are trying to pursue membership into my sorority. You do have to humble yourself. Alpha Kappa Alpha may have a stereotype of having stuck up members but that does not describe each and every one of us. We all have heard many stereotypes about every ethnic group. Do you agree with those types of stereotypes?

Another remark you made is about having life long friends, which I feel can be obtained without membership in any organization. Its all about who you are and how confident you are in yourself and the connections and interests you have with others. Just because you are a member of a particular organization does not mean you're going to have everything in common and you're going to be best friends. To be honest most of my friends are not members of Alpha Kappa Alpha.

To answer your question about how hard is it to become a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha it can be very difficult. It is important that you make yourself known to the members in the chapter at your school and form some type of connection with them, as they will decide if you are accepted given that you have met all the qualifications. Keep your grade point average high, be proactive in your community and join other organizations at your school. Always carry yourself like a lady and be friendly, but don't try too hard. Every member of this organization has a different experience. Truthfully I will say it is not all fun and games but I am very proud to say that I am a member.

Just some protocol tips, you may want to refrain from using the letters "AKA" when referencing to my sorority. While AKA are the official letters for Alpha Kappa Alpha, it makes you look more professional when stating Alpha Kappa Alpha as an interested lady. Good luck to you.

Have you seen or heard about the new Army Dress Uniform?

We Answered:

The uniform is not new. Have you ever seen the tomb guards at the "Tomb of the Unknowns" in Washington? They wear the same uniform. It's originates from 1779 and the current cut is from 1937. No it does not look like the Air Force uniform. Course it predates the Air Force existence 168 years. I have seen the Army dress blues and Air Force uniforms up close and they don't look anything a like. Different colors and cut. It's is the original Army blue uniform. You might recognize the uniform from movies about the old west Indian Wars and the American Civil War. The jackets color originates from 1779, the royal blue trousers 1822, and stripes on the trousers 1827. I have no beef with the Class A and dress blue versions. But the Class B version is just not cutting it. The Army also added too may doo-dads to the uniform . The original Army dress blue uniform was never as cluttered. There should also be a cloth waist belt added as well. Great uniform, just needs some tweaks. The last two sites below show Airmen and Soldiers next to each other.

College Acceptance?

We Answered:

For one, your unweighted GPA is too low. To really stand out, I would say minimum GPA has to be 3.7 (maybe higher). 20 hours a year of service hours is NOT enough because that means you'll do around 80 hours of community service during your whole high school career... I would say 100+ is best for your 4 years in high school. You should take more AP classes. Four is not very impressive, but if you can't handle the work, then it's best not to take it. Having the connection MIGHT help you, but not very much. They look more at a family member being an alumni.. not really friends. Your resume as of now is good for any state school, but if you want to go to Brown or Harvard you really have to stand out.
