Freddie Said:

Should I quit my fudge packing job?

We Answered:

It depends. If you like to pack fudge, at least you are getting paid for something that you like. Is working for Brown's Delivery really what you want to do? If you think that packing fudge is your lifelong goal, then go for it. You can get a managerial job so you can supervise packing fudge, and then implement new fudge packing techniques that you can invent yourself! Just think of it! I believe that creative fudge packing might be your calling.

SAT's, GPA, & Brown?

We Answered:

It's good to set your goals high. Brown is a very nice university! :)

However, your chances of getting in with a sub 2000 SAT score are not good. Your GPA looks very nice, and it's good to have those extra cirriculars under your belt.

If you want a serious shot at getting in you're going to want to hit 2100+ on your SAT. The majority of the people getting in are scoring 2100+, with many applicants scoring 2250+. I wish you the best of luck in obtaining the SAT score you want on your retry :)

Hilda Said:

What are my chances of being accepted to Notre Dame and Brown with these SAT scores?

We Answered:

Some students do find the ACT easier than the SAT: and vice versa. The ACT is more curriculum-based, it tests you on what you've learned over the years, while the SAT is problem-solving. Many students do better on one over the other.

You can help yourself prepare by taking the ACT practice test from the official site. It will give you an idea of what you need to work on. Also, take the SAT again. Many students do better just from knowing what to expect!

Okay, well, your standardized test score isn't the best in the world, but there have been plenty of students with perfect test scores who have been turned away. Colleges are looking for more than great GPA and test scores -- it sounds like already know that community service and extracurriculars are important.

Know that they will also look for leadership roles, strong letter(s) of recommendation, a good interview (if required. if not, and you can request it, do!), great personal statement/essay, and then some.

I'd say while your scores may not be the best in the world, know that it takes more than that so I'd say you still have a fighting chance!

I'm going to throw in here that it is very important to visit the campus and make sure it is a good fit for you. They all look lovely on paper but you can't really get a feel for a college until you take the tour, ask your questions, and speak with actual students.

Apply to more than just these two colleges. Make sure you have a few colleges that you are more than likely to be accepted to and that you are interested in. Ignore the rankings -- the best ranked college in the world won't do you any good if you hate the atmosphere and are completely miserable.

Tracy Said:

Do I have a chance to get into Brown? Or any Ivy school?

We Answered:

never stop dreaming and prepare to be the best.... just wanted you to know that my son scored a perfect score in the math section of the SAT...GPA was 97+ on a scale of 100. He got into MIT. However, he met a young lady who got in because she wrote a superb essay that was totally out of the box. Her grades were not as good but she really impressed the admission board even though her SAT math was less than 650 or 670. You could get lucky but go ahead and study for the ACT and raise that score. Try taking a prep course...Go to college board and look up statistics. Go to the website of the college of your dream and look up stats. your extracurricular activities look really good. With all of that traveling can you speak other languages? this would be impressive too.
