Felix Said:

How do I start a career in therapy and counseling services?

We Answered:

"Diploma," as in High School? If so, college would be a great place to start. You can also look into volunteer work. Visit a volunteer center to find help getting a volunteer post that is compatible with exploring those career options.

Counselling Skills for Human Services certificate..............career ideas?

We Answered:

In your interviews, advise that you are continuing your studies part time and upgrading your qualification to the one they want. Also, you should be able to cross credit a lot of your papers ie you will not have to complete a whole new qualification, as the certificate you have should earn you substantial credit towards the new one.

I am looking for a career counselor/agent.?

We Answered:

I would assume you have a college background. If you are considering changing your career, you will most likely need to get a few more classes under your belt. If you do that, you should have access to the college's Career Center and Conselling staff.

There are also some states that offer similar services. In California, the EDD has a program, I believe, to assist companies and prospective employees to msatch up. The may also be able to provide the type of services you are requesting. EDD may also be able to inform you of services from other entities.

Good Luck!

What do people think about a career as a careers guidance counsellor for young people?

We Answered:

I have a son due to leave school in May. I worry every day about him getting off to a good start and finding a worthwhile job. He has a hip problem, he is not above average academically but he is loyal, honest and hardworking. I hope with all my heart that there is someone at Connexions who cares enough to help him make a start in life as an adult, particularly because I do not live in England so what I can do for him is very limited.

I am 55 and I still remember with appreciation what the youth employment service did to find work for me when I left school.

If you are the kind of person who gains satisfaction from playing a pivotal role in making a start in life for young adults then there can be few jobs more important.

Do you know of any free career counseling services?

We Answered:

Your local government-run agency will provide free counselling services (in Canada). I'm not sure about the U.S., but it should be free. If you are in high school, your guidance counsellor. Local community colleges also may have this service.
