Career growth for airline customer service agent?

We Answered:

This is a very volatile market, make sure you perform an excellent job so you can move around if you need in the future. I cannot assure you a lot of stability in this position, but as soon as you start there are growing chances in the company.

I am a fine art graduate, stuck in a customer service job. I need to find a career in something creative..?

We Answered:

it doesnt matter how high your qualification if you dont have a way in - ('not what you know but who you know' is not entirely true but one is pretty much useless without the other).

jobs in art related fields are extremely competative - not impossible, but not easy. the jobs you will see adverstised will want considerable experience and the jobs below that level wont advertise because they will simply ask around or already have people who have enquired.

how pro-active have you been already? my advice would be to make a list of places that interest you (being realistic - have a range of places to broaden you chances) and write a letter stating your interest in their business and enquiring as to any part time or full time work, enclosing a CV of course.

if you have no relevant work experience this might be tricky so
one way to get a foot in the door is to become an intern (or volunteer) - this could be for a small firm, magazine, gallery or artist say. again, make a list of places you are interested in and give them a call enquiring about such positions. then follow up with a cv and letter.

I can assure you this will give you invaluable contacts and experience - it is about the only way i know to really break into the creative industries (blind luck aside). At worst it looks great on the CV as it proves to future employers that you are truly dedicated to your field.

i found that once i had one job, others came in at a steady rate - you wont be particualrly rich for a good long time but you will be doing something you love.
