Career Services Law

Alicia Said:

Does the Legal Services MOS give you Law Experience?

We Answered:

Law School takes people from a diverse group of people which is why you don't need a pre-law degree to get in. You can be in a completely unrelated field and get into law school. Mostly based on your LSAT scores.

Legal Services in the USMC will do nothing for you law school application, but it will give a unique area of law. Especailly if you want to represent military people after you become a lawyer. If you want high pay MOS, you might look at more technical MOS like electronics technicians or IT field.

Kyle Said:

What is the best Army MOS to pursue a career in federal law enforcement? I was thinking FBI SA or US SS?

We Answered:

I recommend either intel or special operations. The higher the sensitivity of the job the more marketable you'll be when you get out.

Raul Said:

What career in the law enforcement makes the most money?

We Answered:

Air Marshals get paid very very well.

So does being the chief of police somewhere. Prosecutors get paid a lot too.

But if you are looking to make a lot of money, Law Enforcement is not the place to do it. You can be comfortable, but never rich.

Julian Said:

Does your major count more than your GPA for a Goverment/Law enforcement career?

We Answered:

Your GPA is a better indicator of your commitment and accomplishment than your field of major.....

The DOJ is like any other employer in wanting to see demonstrated competence reflected in a decent GPA.

Your major field will provide you a background but your competition will more likely be based upon those with the highest grades regardless of major.

Good Luck.

Wanting a career in law enforcement and secret service etc?

We Answered:

i really dont know but here is what i would do.
look to see if the secret service/treasury dept has a website and if so contact them to see what is needed to become an agent. also you could ask your recruiter to see if he knows or can put you in contact with someone that knows what is needed. my guess would be military police and/or some type of special forces would be involved.

Pauline Said:

How does one go about getting a job in child services?

We Answered:

CPS Case Workers typically have degrees in social work or a similar field. I recommend you volunteer to intern for social services before you try to get a job in CPSland. It is very different than what the public percieves it to be, and many folks are not cut out for it. Granted, some CPS social workers work there for years, but since I've been affiliated with my county, the turnover rate for CPS workers is astronomical!

You might also consider working in Juvenile Hall as a counselor, or for juvenile probation as a PA or PO... it's somewhat similar, and we have a daily impact on these kids lives.
