Carl Said:How do I start my career in financial services?
We Answered:The best career for someone in economics who wants to get into financial services is to try becoming an actuary. Actuaries are always in demand, but the exams are difficult. Otherwise start searching for jobs at insurance companies, banks, brokerages, or become an independent financial advisor.
Carrie Said:To what extent did your internship affect your plans for a career in financial services?
We Answered:The internship after getting a business degree is very influential in choosing my career path. I got an internship in a large bank, and i really liked the environment, culture, and the business. it intrigued me so much that i pursued a banking career after my studies.
if you worked in crowne plaza, which is a hotel, then at least you should be able to get experience on the financial aspect of running the hotel. try to get an understanding on cost/room or overhead costs, and economies of scale. this will give you a feel of the financial aspect of the hotel. this skill can be transferred to banking where you will deal with all sorts of numbers.
Kurt Said:Voluntary project, Financial Services careers?
We Answered:The new company is engaged in financing the investment projects and you have experience in retail banking both of which have a very wide gap. Investment banker will appraise any request from its customers or clients applying Discounted Cash Flow method. A sensitive analysis will also be carried out as well as calculating internal rate of return to find the rate of return at which the net present value of the investment is zero.
It is a specialized exercise and there are still many more aspects to it which can not be covered in this forum. I would suggest you visit www.investopedia.com use their tutorials and definitions to learn more about it.
Based on your experience of retail banking, you can not write a report on these lines. You may, however, give them a report about the project you handled in your current job which makes you proud. Be honest. You will have to mention how you analyzed the client's request, how did you appraise the request, what security you obtained and how did it affect the business of your bank.
Grace Said:financial services career change?
We Answered:first go to the companies website you want to work for and submit your resume to them directly.
then go back to your schools career counseling office and they should be able to help you.
then search monster, carreerbuilder...and of course hotjobs (gotta support yahoo!) and look on there for leads.
2 years out of college is no big deal.
Alicia Said:Which career in Financial Services is more satisfying?
We Answered:Depends what you find more fulfilling. CDO specialists will I believe have great future potential for advancement in income as employees with intricate knowledge of the derivatives market will become invaluable to companies. Corporate actions will give you a wider range of experience. For example, a merger is one of the most complicated actions you can deal with. And then some are simple, like a company changing its name. Many are convoluted. Essentially, your job is to provide accurate and timely corporate action information to clients so that they can make the best decisions with respect to that information for the mutual funds or accounts they manage. GM's declaration of bankruptcy and its ensuing restructuring is an example of a recent corporate action that most people are familiar with.
A CDO specialist must have an in depth knowledge of fixed income securities, structured products and derivatives to determine and implement exact prevention mechanisms across all trading systems while accounting for the dynamics of the different security types. You must understand the impact that all security types have on each rule and how to set up those rules in all front-end systems. You are in a nutshell a structured debt analyst.

Raymond Said:starting a career in financial services industry?
We Answered:Hi - It really depends on what area of software development are you in...To my knowledge I have heard of people working as consultants to banks or other financial services firms as staff in an IT department for a bank need not be core IT experts but functional as to say.
You may want to check out the openings on job search web-sites to start with and as others must have said try to network through friends and family with people working for these companies who can help you with an opening of a specific kind what you may be looking for.....
I know its more general but depending on the area of s/w development you are in, you can seek more guidance...
Hope this helps!
