What are some lucrative recession proof careers?

We Answered:

Recession Proof = Politicians . . . but really if you are looking at the public sector which does not have many lucrative well paid jobs available currently you will have difficulty. You may want to try insurance in the private sector. In theory as a private sector industry insurance is less effected by recessions because it is a product that will always be a necessity. That being said a lot of Insurance Companies have let go certain non-client facing position, but most companies are looking for self starter exclusive agents (like State Farm or Farmers) to sell their policies to the public. It is a sales position which is primarily paid on commission but generally if you're motivated you can succeed and there is no prerequisite for a specific level of education. Most of the large insurance companies will even cover your licensing costs as most states require agents to be licensed to sell policies. Remember also there are different segments of insurance, Personal (cars, home), Commercial (businesses), Life Accident & Health, etc..

Hope this helps.
