Yeah, go on BOP.gov trust me they hire you if you can pass the physical, do the training (I think Federal is three weeks), and don't have a criminal history that might exclude you. Good money, hours suck, you cannot pick your shift, you work holidays, nights, weekends, and the crooks are always trying to one up on you, like first it's a pencil, then it's a cocaine shipment. Stay sharp.

They do the crappiest job in the military. Don't do it. I remember a time when the brig at Pendelton needed extra manpower and I drew the short straw because I got shafted into being a chaser prior to that. I can't describe how badly that duty sucked and brig duty is infinitely better than Leavenworth or guarding foreign combatants.

If you want to be a cop, you don't have to have similar military experience. Use your time in the service to get training in a good fall back line of work. Try something technical.

I seriously doubt any department would exclude you for the ELS, since a positive urinalysis is not the same as a conviction. Your drug use could be a factor during a polygraph, however. Only you know how that will turn out.
