Carl Said:
How can I prepare for College? We Answered:
There are many different approaches to how you can prepare for college. I honestly don't think you need to be excessively worried and stressed right now. Freshmen/Sophomore years aren't as significant as Junior/Senior years, because you normally begin to prep for college in those latter years. It does, however, tend to set the scene for your high school success; you seem to understand your mistakes though, so you'll be fine (as long as you work). Nonetheless, you should still maintain at least a 3.0 (at least!) in four years if you want to contend with the other applicants (still doesn't guarantee you ANYTHING). For you, the most important thing is keeping your grades up, and starting to choose your career interests that will become academic. Sports are important, but unless you're the star of the team or have a true passion to be an athlete, it really won't do very much in the admissions office, unless, of course, you take a leadership role. SATs and AP/IB classes are more crucial towards the end of high school (you can start early if you desire, but it will be tough). Also, do some research on CU (Colorado?); see if it's the school you're actually interested in attending, and check the average GPAs, SATs, etc. It's really early for you, so don't worry about what happened last year. If you really want to do well, I have no doubt that you will. Also, challenge yourself by taking college level classes (take some classes at the closest community college, or join a summer college program in your area). Don't slack off again; best wishes!
