What are Some Actings Scams You've Encountered? We Answered:
>> Dedicated: Originally Zanuck, Passon, and Pace, one of>> the scammiest agencies in L.A. When they were ZPP

I was signed with Zanuck, Passon and Pace and my agent was Barry Rick . . . they NEVER EVER asked me to use their photographer, nor did they ask for anything but ONE good shot.
And I was NOT ever asked to take one single class as I already had experience.
I found my own photographer and I was sent out on tons of work with Barry Rick when he was still at ZPP. This was in the 2002 to 2004 time frame, too.
Maybe you were there earlier? Or is this recently?
Barry Rick eventually (2005), after I moved to New York (again), created his own agency BRick Entertainment and left ZPP. And I just learned, last week, that Barry died in November 2008. His agency is to continue with the partner running it.
Sounds like you've listed all the scams, though . . .
I also recommend actors check and see. As I stated: My experience at Zanuck, Passon and Pace was quite lovely and they never asked me to spend one dime on their people or classes.
In fact, I even asked Barry Rick for a good photographer . . . he gave me the name of two and told me "but they're very expensive". He knew my budget and told me to find one I could afford and just get great photos . . . I did and it was wonderful.
And, yeah, my resume spoke for itself and Barry Rick was impressed with my training and experience. And merely told me, "keep up the good work"!

do u have any awesome stories about ur families ancestry, could u share? We Answered:
my mother and father both were born in Caibarien, Las Villas, Cuba. My grandparents were also born there. My mothers family left in 1971 after my grandfather labored in a sugarcane camp for 4 years. When time came to leave Cuba the government denied his request for some reason, but they were willing to send his family over there. He wasn't too well educated so he was only really needed for physical labor. He then self-inflicted an injury upon himself with a machete, they granted him a US visa. They went to miami but settled in Chicago. My great grandparents immigrated to Cuba from North Africa and Spain (Cataluna and Canary Islands). Oh, and i had to interview my grandpa for a school assignment one year and he told me an elaborate story of how he had to patrol the beaches of Caibarien (it's in the northern coast of Cuba) during the missle crisis because the Cubans were afraid the American forces would invade Santa Clara. I may be related to Santa Ana, he was a Spaniard and he was sent to the then Spanish colony of Mexico to govern it. your story seems interesting by the way.Freddie Said:
What are Some Acting Scams You've Encountered? We Answered:
Great list! So many people are sucked in by these scam "agencies" who just manage to skirt the law. There are a few tip-offs that an agency is not legit:
- they have an "in-house" photographer
- they try to sell you classes
- they try to tell you that you need to go to a conference, or a "showcase" to be "discovered"
- they charge you a fee to join, and a fee to stay on the roster
- they charge you a fee to "audition" for them
Real agents
- don't advertise (they don't need to)
- work only on commission
- don't sell classes or photos
- don't make any promises
