Well we are at war right now. Your parents are not wrong for worrying about their son. They love you. But it all comes down to what do you want to do? Just make sure its what you really want. Once you sign the contract. You stuck for 4 years. You can't quit. And it's hard for them to kick you out. Just do reserch. And score high on your asvb because you'll have more options.

This link breaks the job down very well. Although most people would think this job is not good, it's actually great! You are supporting everyone on base! If it wasn't for Services then the base would not operate. You can be deployed, you can go TDY, you can and will do everything needed to run the base.

If you're still unhappy then think of these two things; 1. it's a great job to go to school with. You'll have more free time to go to college and work on a degree. And, 2. you'll always be able to re-train after your first enlistment.
