Career advice for a master roofer in SE Michigan? We Answered:
The situation here in SW Michigan is much the same. I just went through Michigan Works to try to get in the No Worker Left Behind program. If they get the funding they will be paying for my Wind Turbine Technician training course. It starts in May at the community college. Wind Turbine Techs for large turbines are in demand and annual wages run from 35-100,000 depending upon how much you want to travel. I investigated many, many options and this is the best for me.I know that they have a wind turbine program in New Boston, not sure of the school name.
Here are a few links for you to check out, hope they help!
Good Luck!

Can I get into Michigan State University? We Answered:
You'll probably get in. The average GPA at MSU is 3.6, and the average ACT score is 24. In academics alone, it would just barely be a reach for you to get in. But one thing you have to consider is the fact that MSU has noticeably been attempting to improve its academic reputation (to compare to U of M's). According to the university, their #1 consideration for applicants is academics - GPA, rigor of school record, and test scores.Second to that, according to the school, are extracurriculars, personal qualities, the application essay, recommendations, talent, etc.
An important detail to note is that the school professes to pay NO ATTENTION in the application process to alumni/ae relation, volunteer work, and interview. Though it's not mentioned, it's safe to assume that this means the school wouldn't care in the least whether your father's in the HoR.
Honestly, with your academics and extracurriculars, if you're going to try and get into a 'reach' school based on your father or your recommendations alone, try for U of M. You've got more contacts and weight there. MSU probably won't be that impressed by your U of M contacts - the schools, as I'm sure you know, are rivals.
If you're really wanting MSU, though, take more honors courses, get a better GPA, and take ACT prep before taking it again in the summer - aim for at least a 25. Get into some less athletic extracurriculars to make yourself seem more rounded out. And don't try to throw your weight around with the whole 'dad controlling college money from the government' thing - it could very well completely turn any interviewer from MSU off if they think you're attempting to blackmail your way in.
As a final note, I'd like to add that the response above me is just about the dumbest **** I've ever read. Those jokes are used in every state and college for other colleges regardless of what the school is, and you should pay absolutely no mind to it. MSU is a very well regarded school, as I'm sure you already know.
Good luck.

Career/Job Fair in Michigan, how effective is this in obtaining employment? We Answered:
Probably not worth the drive because there is so much competition for so few spots. But you might make some great contacts for the future and it will prepare you for other job fairs. Personally I never received any contacts from job fairs because usually the companies that attend those are looking for low paying, high turnover, always needed positions.Andy Said:
What job opportunities, are there for people convicted of a felony? We Answered:
I know it's hard. My biggest suggestion to you is to look to small companies that really need help. Trust me there are millions of them.To all of the employers out there. You need to look for these opportunities. These folks want to do the right thing, and can bring special assest to your company.
I don't know about Michigan, but most states have programs for small business to get credits for hiring people with a past.
