How do colleges look at enlisted service? We Answered:
Any college would be happy to have a former member of the military and there are programs that will get you some serious financial aid. You will also probably have some money in your pocket due to your service. If you wish, you can avoid enlisting by starting in with the ROTC right away during college. I had a roommate who did this and then he served his required commitment (4 years) and then re-enlisted.

What are my chances of getting into colleges like Northwestern? We Answered:
Your GPA is low for Northwestern or an Ivy, but its not out of the question. Most schools look at the unweighted GPA and A-'s and B+'s are normal grades.Your class rank would have a lot of impact. If you're top 10% you're in a much better place.
The chess should help, but you're on the cusp.

What are my chances at Northwestern? And which extracurriculars should I put?We Answered:
Very good. All of your ECs are good but as you noted, you can't list all of them. You should list the ones about which you're most passionate. Barring that, list ones that connect to each other. Eg: I do a lot with education, so I emphasize those ECs. Also list ones that make you stand out. Basically, show what makes you special.I'm not applying to Northwestern and I don't go there, but as my sister goes there, so I've spent quite a bit of time there. I find it quite hard to describe the typical student. I'd say that everyone finds their niche there.

Northwestern, Loyola, UIC, UCLA?We Answered:
Right now you need to work upon the area of the two D's. What subjects were they in? Does your area have night classes to upgrade you skill level in the weak area?Comm. service is fine, but you don't need to impress the univ. At this point in time. It's good to be prepared, but the most important things are your grades. Not just subjects you enjoy, but the mandatory ones. Yes English, math, science etc are all important. Your new to the system and what might work for some of your friends in study habits might not work for you. Go to your counsel for guidance. I think your jumping the gun a little, but you can check out the schools on the web. Use the school library or your local one. Ask for help whenever you have to much on your mind go to those you trust.
If you have a summer job to go to, that is wonderful and valued experience. Not just for college, but $$ in your pocket. Use it wisely.
I went to Northwestern for 4 years, then my masters was at UC Berkeley. From there I did 2 of 3 years in law at USF, in San Francisco. So don't rush. Take your time and don't forget to enjoy your young life while you still can.
The very best to you and your future.
