what are my options for a psychology career?

We Answered:

There are few options for folks with a BA in Psychology if you want to work in the field of Psychology. You can be a research assistant for a faculty member, but they often use graduate students for that. (They work harder and longer hours and usually get paid less or are subsidized.) You might also be a treatment aid, e.g., at a rehab center or psychiatric hospital (MHTA, or “mahata”, they call them in NYC hospitals). Otherwise you’ll have to work in an unrelated field. You can be a social worker with a master’s degree (MSW), but you need a PhD or PsyD to be a psychologist. There are lots of jobs for social workers and school psychologists in the NYC metro area; probably more than anywhere else in the country. There are also more university graduate programs in Psychology in the NYC metro area than anywhere else. Check out the links below for more info; you can also chat with the faculty and grad students at your college. If you need or want to work during your undergrad years, it could be beneficial to get a job within the Psychology Department. Then you’ll have a wealth of information on a daily basis, and *possibly* a foot in the door if you decide to apply to graduate school. At least you’ll have a good letter of recommendation from someone credible and someone who actually knows you.

How are they looking?

We Answered:

I think they drafted some good players, but their not going to be able to play in the NHL right away, until what... 2 or 3 years? and that's if their ready. So we're not going to be playing them this coming season... they still need to develop, work on a few things. We'll really have to see exactly what Bowman does when it comes to trades and resigning players and who he brings up from Rockford to give them a chance to prove themselves... so as of right now we're ok, but what matters are the next steps Bowman has to make.
