You do not need a professional degree. Too many people have paid a year's salary to get a culinary degree and they are still unemployed. Try to do some catering to get started. Cook in people's private homes for a fee.
Also apply to be a substitute for any chef who calls in sick or goes on vacation. YOu can apply at hotels or restaurants. Once they watch you work, you will get hired full-time..

Yes, you could possibly work for a larger agri-business or food company. Your skills would be very sought after. You might even be able to work in translation work in another country while working for one of these American companies. You would really have to network and market yourself to reach this potential. However, it could be possible. Also, you may want to get with a professional job agency to help you in your search and desire to change professions.

Good luck in whatever you decide! I envy your dedication and bravery to try something new and different. Please do not get overwhelmed by culture shock after you do get a job that you desire. Try taking some additional language instruction in your spare time to improve your standing in your new profession. English is not the easiest language to master.
