Go to your local fire station, they will be able to help you too. My partner is a firefighter and applied for a number of counties. He lived in Surrey but was offered a position by Essex so worked there and then transferred back to Surrey.Don't be put off by the official "not currently recruiting". Those counties that currently aren't recruiting ususally will know when the next recruitment drive is planned (normally spring or autumn in my experiance) so it would be worth contacting your local Fire Brigade (HR) for this information.
