Can i get into UCLA in ure opinion?

We Answered:

You are overqualified for UCLA. I wouldn't be surprised if you get into Harvard or Princeton with that resume. Aim for Ivy League man.

Premed/Biochem major trying to decide between UC Berkeley and UCLA?

We Answered:

First off, don't worry about making it. You will. And you'll have a rough road. You're going to be like the vast majority of freshmen - they all did really well in HS, they get to college and are completely overwhelmed for the first 2 years or so, and then something clicks and you just get it. It happened to me, at Berkeley. My first two years my GPA was about a 2.7 and my last two it was around a 3.9. I was a good, not great, HS student and came out an excellent college grad.

Berkeley is an incredible school. The initial impression is that it's somewhat dirty, drugged out, hippy, etc. The fact is that the intellectual resources are second to none. I saw lectures by the greatest physicists, musicians, political leaders, and overall intellectuals in the world (Carlos Santana and Stephen Hawkins both spoke [and Carlos performed] in my physics lecture hall, though not at the same time; and I had a Nobel Laurette teach my Physics 7C class). You will never, ever be at a loss for things to do, and SF is just across the Bay. I learned to sail in the Bay, trained for the half marathon in the Berkeley hills, and saw the best blues on the west coast. On the other hand, it's totally obvious to me that your first two years are going to absolutely suck - to describe yourself (proudly) as anti-bookworm is a recipe for disaster. But like most kids, you'll get it by the time you're a junior.

Can't say much about UCLA. Not as intense, nowhere near as eclectic. However, their premed is top-notch, which means you'll be going against the best and brightest there too. Which means, of course, you're going to run into the same problem.

Wherever you go you'll be with the best, so for your own sanity, the sooner you get off that "wing it, anti-bookworm" nonsense and learn how to compete with the best, the better. Once you get over that hump, you'll do fine regardless.

Will I Be a Honest Contestant for these Colleges?

We Answered:

Hey, i m a HS freshman from AK

After reading your background i think you are awesome! Especially when I read about your CS experience ^o^

I m no expert at the medical field (ho ho ho), i m pursuing a direction more slanted toward business and finance

I suggest you go on princetonreview.com and check out some colleges

Especially try this medical school match tool: http://www.princetonreview.com/medical/r…
(Free registration is needed takes no more than 30 seconds)

Go for something big, my cousin is doing the same thing as you, she's a college sophmore at MIT, that's a pretty nice yet intense school

Good luck buddy!

P.S. What is your CS story, can you tell me the name of your team so i can google it lol

Is this enough to get me into UCLA?

We Answered:

Let me tell you about my UCLA experience:

I was Editor-in-Chief of my high school newspaper two years in a row. I won two nationwide writing contests, and many, many local, regional, and state contests (in my freshman, sophomore, junior and senior years). I was a member of my high school theatre department's Honors Acting Ensemble and its Master Class. I wrote and produced my own play. I volunteered several hundred hours at a local children's musical theatre where I designed and constructed costumes, sets and programs. I was active in student government in my freshman and sophomore years. I worked as a mentor for children with disabilities. I took two AP classes (scored a 4 and 5 on the exams). I had a GPA of 3.83 and a 790 in Writing, a 740 in Reading, and a 590 in Math on my SAT, plus a 790 on my SAT English Subject Test and a 700 on my US History Subject Test.

I recorded two music videos and was in the process of getting a record deal when I applied to UCLA. I flew to San Francisco to audition.

My mother was a former student.

I did not get in.

So ... I'm thinking you should do more.
