Pamela Said:

What are the chances for a transfer student to get into UNC?

We Answered:

I can't speak for UNC specifically, however in general:

Much will depend on what you intend as your major after you transfer. Some majors want lots and lots of upper-level students and would welcome you with open arms, considering your GPA and activities (say, English, education, psychology, sciences, math). Other majors might be stuck in the "we alone can prepare our students" arrogance, or restricted by accreditation or professional gate-keeping (some business schools, nursing, journalism) and in those cases you might be accepted but not as a full-fledged third-year student.

You might want to take a little time to explore UNC's catalogue and check their transfer policies and any special programs they have for CC transfers. I know of one good university that guarantees that all courses completed at an accredited college will transfer with full credit--I know of others that offer special tuition incentives for CC transfers. You could get an inkling from there.

Transfer is like the original application to college--you should always have a "safety net" school that will accept you unconditionally, should your first choice not come through.

Question for OOS UNC-Chapel Hill students?

We Answered:

I've researched this school ALOT since i want to attend this school as well.... I'm a junior too and i'm out of state so hopefully we both get accepted..

Ok anyway, class rank is very important to this school..You should get involved in some clubs that your really passionate about... Or maybe you can see if you can start a horseback riding club or something.... this school likes to see leaders, and good SAT and ACT scored.. I know alot of the people that have been accepted got no less that a 2000 on the SAT and they were like the top 5% of their class... Make sure you do voluntering as well....And of course your essay and recommendations will give you a chance

Look like you have a better chance then me because your GPA is WAYYY higher than mines lol..... but maybe i'll see you there..hopefully

AP Enviro or AP Chem- UNC (hopeful)?

We Answered:

I'd take AP Chem, especially if you're going into medicine. If you get a good grade on the exam, unc ch lets you skip introductory chemistry so that you can go straight into organic chem as a freshman. Which would leave you more time to take advanced bio and chem courses later on. Or maybe you could even graduate in 3 years, seeing as you have SO many APs. (I can't believe you would take 5 APs in one year!! I would be so overwhelmed, but if you can do it then that's pretty cool.)

My opinion (which is not really based on any specific facts) is that so far you will definitely get into Chapel Hill. It says their average SAT is 590-690 for critical reading, 620-700 for math, and 590-690 for writing on the college board website.

Chances of getting into UNC Chapel Hill?

We Answered:

Im also a sophomore who wants to attend UNC.
I also live in North Carolina.
I also have all AP classes (except math) and I am also activley involved in my schools JROTC program.
Sounds like our chances are about the same :)

I recommend taking the SAT your junior year, so youll at least know where you stand. Try to improve your scores by taking it again your senior year. If anything, at least take the PSAT your junior year.

Good luck.
