If I understand your question, You will need a Social Work degree to obtain your license and you can not work as a Social Worker at the professional rate of pay without the license. The more you move up the better. BSW, MSW and then work two yrs supervised to test for your LCSW (private practice lic). Working in a Social Services department is not even close to having a degree in Social Work. Most all places have a Human Resources dept. or Social Service. This is not Social Work nor it is a Mental Health Professional degree. Many get that confused. Social Work stand alone and the pay is very different. I have BSW, MSW and LCSW. Many yrs experience.
