Gregory Said:

Should I pursue a dual major, major and concentration, or simply my finance degree?

We Answered:

If you have a degree - or any other qualification - then you'll already be in advace of of the masses when it comes to searching for careers. My friend has a degree and he wasn't sure what direction to go with it, but he stumbled upon some great instruction on the resource in the resource box below which helped him to settle that he wanted to be a lab assistant. There is a lot of guidance on the resource regarding other careers.

Career question: Should I pursue a dual major in Finance/CIS for further career opportunities?

We Answered:

CIS and FINANCE. You can do either. Perform as an accountant, programmer or system analyst. An SA determines the needs of the CIS User (Finance), writes the specifications from which the programmer writes/maintains the programs. You have to stay current with changes in technologies in both fields.

Realistic to enlist prior to applying to OCS?

We Answered:

At your age you should really consider OCS. Especially if you want a career in CIA or DoS after 20 years. You are getting a late start to begin with no need to put yourself further behind.

If you add the number of years it takes to make E6 you might be a Major at 20 years. And you will be competing with O6s for those civilian jobs.

Randy Said:

I would like to know if someone can help me decide whether to double major with finance and CIS or not?

We Answered:

I'd suggest option 3. Your core degree will be most valuable, the courses you referenced are very beneficial in the business world and will add a lot of value on your resume.

CIS is excellent, but there is no guarantee that the job you are applying for requires this - it may offer no more value than an advanced speaking course on your resume.

I would also suggest that rather than targeting a 'top 10' initially, you way want to consider a 2nd tier company (if top 10 doesn't work out initially). Once you build some solid work experience, apply again - keep that your long term goal.
