Career Counselling Test

Which is the better career: becoming a school counseler or a school psychologist? We Answered:
School counselors only need a master's degree and in some states have to have classroom teaching experience before becoming a school counselor (In my state, it's two years). School psychologists, however, do not need teaching experience and typically have a Ph.D (although there are some Ed.S programs). School counselors usually work at a specific school, probably have an office at an elementary school, for example. This may also be the cause for school psychs, but sometimes there's only one psychologist per district and he/she may travel between different schools/grade levels. Also, psychologists deal more with psychopathology, while counselors would probably deal with more everyday student problems. www.princetonreview.com has a career finder and "day in the life" scenarios.Jonathan Said:

what's a good career?We Answered:
I was in a very similar bind a few years ago. I HATED the idea of throwing my life away in a damn office. I would seriously shoot myself if I ever had to do that. I didn't know what I wanted to do with my life and I was freaking out because I felt life was passing me by.I tried my hand at teaching and discovered that it filled my heart. Another thing I knew was that I DESPERATELY wanted to travel and see the world. I'd studied abroad and KNEW I wanted to have more overseas adventures. So, I got into teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). Will I do it forever? I don't know, but it's perfect for NOW.
Lesson learned: Think about something that means a lot to you at the moment and try your hand at different things.
Just remember, that if you think in terms of the rest of your life, you'll be overwhelmed and that will paralyze you. You're not wedded to a job and many people switch careers.
Do you think you would like being a teacher? You have to go to university but in my case it was worth it. And, I'm warning you: Teaching is hard work. But I am GLAD I got into it.
I would NEVER teach at an American public school. No offense to my fellow Americans... but NEVER, EVER again. My next stint will be in Mexico, I taught there before and LOVE teaching in Mexico.

What career should I pursue? We Answered:
Here are some pros and cons of each one that I thought of:Medicine:
- Pro: Tends to pay well, and does not always involve interaction with customers. Some pharmacies like Walgreens will help pay for your education, if you agree to work for them for X number of years.
- Con: Any medically-related job makes you open to being sued. You'll frequently have to deal with insurance companies, and with customers being upset at how much their mids cost.
Counseling:
- Pro: Very rewarding to help people through their problems. Counselors (whether psychiatrists, psychologists, or therapists) are often self-employed, and can set their schedules based on how much they want to work and how many clients they want to handle.
- Con: Emotionally draining constantly dealing with other people's problems. Possibly dealing with insurance companies again. Having to be available basically around the clock if a patient is having a major crisis.
Teaching:
- Pro: Very rewarding teaching the youth of America. State health and pension benefits, summers off, most likely a teacher's union fighting for your best interests as an educator.
- Con: Bratty kids who disrupt class and constantly fail, and parents who blame YOU and not themselves or their child. Ever increasing demands to conform and perform based on state/federal regulations and over-emphasis on test scores. Much lower pay compared to the other two fields.
